Twelve Days of Quitting
I love this time of year—all of the special songs, decorations and celebrations come to life and of course, I love the American Lung Association’s Christmas Seals®! If you haven’t had a chance yet to check out the Christmas Seals® site, I hope you will take some time to visit and see all of the seals we have had over the years. You can e-mail seals to your friends as well. It’s a great way to celebrate the season and bring some attention to lung health and research to find a cure for lung disease.
Speaking of lung disease, there is help for those living with it on the American Lung Association’s website. Perhaps your physician has recently told you that you have COPD (Chronic Obstructive Lung Disease) or even lung cancer and has recommended that you quit smoking. Our Better Breathers Clubs that offer support to adults with lung disease may be available in your area. Click on the link to find out more and check out a local club if you can. You’ll find practical advice, support and caring people with whom to connect.
The American Lung Association recently launched a new website for those living with lung cancer, Facing Lung Cancer-Support from Day One. It offers information about the disease, treatment options, a list of clinical trials, and even support for caregivers. This site is not only for patients and caregivers but also for medical professionals.
As we celebrate the season, I offer you the Twelve Days of Quitting. Feel free to hum or sing along! :-)
On the twelfth day of quitting, this was my strategy:
12 new distractions
11 healthy snacks
10 minutes walking
9 calls to friends
8 cups of water
7 posts to Message Boards
6 soothing songs
5 deep breathing exercises
4 packs of gum
3 yoga classes
2 candy canes
And a long list of why smoking’s not for me!
Happy holidays and I’ll see you on the Message Boards! :-) Mary Ella
Don’t forget: If you're in the Premium program and want help fast on the Message Boards, put "HELP NOW" in the subject line of your post. If you're looking to offer help, watch for those, "HELP NOW" posts and alert your other FFS Online buddies to offer some assistance as well.
